    The haunted-house concept is nothing new in the movie world. In this new movie based on the old idea, director Peter Cornwell is exploring it from another angle by trying to incorporate it into a cancer patient’s pain.
    The house, that the family of three – made up of the patient and his parents – occupies, has a past as a funeral home and center of séances. The saving grace of the place for them is that it is near where the teenager patient is getting treated. The shadowy past throws its evidence around in the form of blood and gore and eerie sounds and shadows. But the suffering teenager is not sure how much of it is real and how much is medicine-induced hallucination, till he takes a co-patient into confidence.
    The problem with the movie is that somehow its spookiness angle does not gel properly. Despite its PG-13 stamp, it looks more like a family saga, or one that derives its strength from human emotions. Horror movies have to horror-driven, or they may end up as senseless travesties.

    People are often spoilt for choices when it comes to watching films, as there are a lot of films that are released from time to time. People however look out for those films that they feel would be the most promising. There are a few movies that are so much enjoyed by the audience that they wish that the length of the film could have been a bit longer. One such movie is The Last House on the Left that has been directed by Dennis Iliadis. This horror movie has the right mix of everything to make it worth going. The story of the film is about a girl named Mari Collingwood and her friend who are kept captive. The girls try hard to escape, but more than once their plans are thwarted. The film has been well scripted and crafted to make it the movie that it is, sure to be liked by the audience and be a money churner at the same time.

    The film has been remade once again for people to once again get to watch the gory murders of people by a madman. Jason again remerges to start killing teenagers gruesomely for no reason at all. The story starts at the very point where the previous movie had ended. The film revolves around a group of teenagers who are holidaying at a summer home belonging to one of their friends. They are soon joined by a guy who is searching for his sister, who is shown becoming a victim of Jason right at the beginning of the film. The film then proceeds with each of these teenagers being killed one by one by Jason. Each of the victims dying in the film are shown being killed in different gruesome ways by Jason. The film is sure to keep moviegoers to keep interested in watching it, however how many people would like it is not sure.

    Thomas and Charles Guard have come up with a film that is supposed to be a mystery thriller interspersed with horror. The story begins with the main character Anna played by Emily Browning being sent to stay with her dad and sister after being released from the mental hospital, where she had landed up her after the accidental death of her mother in an explosion. Once she comes into the house she starts having nightmares trouble her a lot. All of this along with the accidental death of her mother keeps Anna haunted, and she decides to solve the case of her mother’s murder once and for all. The film has some amazing shots of landscape that are quite unlikely for a horror movie. Had it not been for the ghosts and the shots of nightmares that are seen by the character of Anna, there would hardly have been any element of horror in this film.

    The third film in the Underworld series that deals with werewolves and vampires tries explaining to the audience about how the conflict between the two parties that have been portrayed in the previous two films in the series actually began. Kate Beckinsale who had previously played the lead in the Underworld series has been replaced in this recent movie by Rhona Mitra. Although most of the story that has been shown in the movie has already been mentioned in the previous two movies in the series, this movie proves to be the best among the three movies in the series that have been release so far. The visual effects that have been used in the film are quite good, and definitely be liked by the audience. Compared to the other movies in the series that have been released till date, this one proves to be a lot better, and bring in audiences to the halls.

    Movie makers these days are seen relying on 3D in order to bring audiences to the movie halls, and this film is one of these attempts. The film is set in a small town which has an old mine that had been the scene of a series of murders by an insane miner in the past. Trouble starts all over again when the owner of the mine returns to the town after a decade in order to sell it, and murders start taking place once again. People have to keep guessing whether the murderer is the same old miner or someone else. There are a lot of gruesome murders that are shown in the movie to bring up the horror element in the movie. All this said and one the film can be watched once, but then whether the audiences would even recommend it to others remains a question.

    It seems that directors are running out of ideas as to what films should they be actually making for their audiences. This is why films such as The Unborn end up being made. There is a confusing storyline in this horror flick, which would make audiences wonder why they even bothered to watch the movie. The main storyline of the film is about a girl who is being chased by a ghost, who wants to take possession of her body. The identity of the ghost is revealed to be the twin of the girl who got killed when it was in the womb. With such a storyline what more can audiences expect from the film. The protagonist is played by Odette Yustman, who is no good at acting and just manages to look attractive. One view of this movie and audiences would wonder why the film was even made.

    This Catherine Hardwicke directed film is about a teenage girl named Bella and her love affair with a friendly vampire named Edward. The interesting thing about this film is that it shows that vampires can also be lovable and they do not always have to look horrible. The movie at the end shows hoe Edward must protect Bella from other vampires, who are not at all friendly and simply love human blood. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson act convincingly as the lovelorn Bella and Edward, however the film is not that good to captivate the interests of the audience. The director however should be appreciated to have made this film at such a tight budget, and it can very well be understood that with some more budget, the film could have been made much better than what it is. The movie will however be liked by those who have read the book series on which the movie is based.

    Quarantine is one of those sub standard horror films that are released and very soon forgotten by the audience. The storyline of the film is very weak and this is one of the major reasons why the film fails to connect with the audience. In trying to come up with something different, the scriptwriter has made a complete mess of the story. The film is about a reporter named Angela played by Jennifer Carpenter and the adventure that she has while doing a project on the local firefighters in town. What follows is a terrifying experience with plots that seem a bit crazy. There are flesh eaters in the film who infect people with rabies, who are the trouble makers and the reporter gets trapped along with the firefighters and her cameraman in a building with these flesh eating beings. The film then deals with the way she copes with the problem and comes out of the building.

    Although the first Hellboy did not do too well at the box office, the second installment of the film has got released. The movie directed by Guillermo del Toro has been able to make a great film out of this sequel, which promises to be quite enjoyable for the movie goers. The actor playing the role of Hellboy in the film, Ron Perlman has acted really well in the film. In this new installment of there are a lot of other characters like Hellboy who will increase the interests of those, watching the film. The technicality of the film along with fine performances of the actors is a great plus point for the film. The storyline in the film is quite interesting and will definitely rouse the interests of the audiences. With such fine performances and great story the film seems to be all set to do well at the box office this year.

    Ever since ‘The Mummy’ was released, audiences across the world had waited eagerly for the sequels of the film. Brendan Fraser and the other actors in the film very soon became famous with the people, and after the last movie named ‘Mummy Returns’ was released people were really interested in watching the characters returning again to the silver screen. The audiences have been granted their wish of watching them again in this Rob Cohen directed film where they are shown battling Asian mummies. However the movie has not been able to display any of the magic that was seen in the other Mummy films that were released before. The action in the film as well as the comedy in the film is hardly as impressive as the ones that were seen in the previous movies. With Rachel Weisz missing there is not much chemistry between the main characters as well, and the audiences will be highly disappointed with the film.

    Whenever Manoj Night Shyamalan comes out with a film, people have high expectations with him. This is why when the film ‘The Happening’ was released both critics and audiences across the world hoped that it would be another fine piece of art from Shyamalan. Like most of his other films this film too deals with strange happenings. In the film it is shown that for unknown reasons a lot of people suddenly start committing suicide in New York City. The main characters in the film are played by Mark Wahlberg, Zooey Deschanel, John Leguizamo, Ashlyn Sanchez, Betty Buckley, and Spencer Breslin. Although the technicalities and direction in the film is not bad, the director has not been able to translate his talents onto the screen. The film fails to impress in terms of the way the characters have shaped out in the film. The film seems to be set to o average business in the box office.

    One of the most hilarious movies of the year and truly a great work of animation – Kung Fu Panda, directed by Mark Osborne and John Stevenson, reflects the journey of the hero, in the world of martial arts. With complex animations like never before, the film is really good to relax and enjoy throughout.

    This film marks the second time that Jack Black and Angelina Jolie lent their voices in a DreamWorks picture. Others like Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, Ian McShane and Seth Rogen also had their voices casted against the funny characters.

    Kung Fu Panda was sent rolling to the top of the Box Office list, just after the first weekend, grossing around $60.2mn. It stayed there for quite some time and seemed to be the favorite of all age groups and not just children. Martial arts could have found no better way to entertain the youngest generations.

    Directed by David Moreau and Xavier Palud, The Eye is a captivating thriller involving the strange encounters of Sydney Wells. It is remake of a Hong Kong-Thai-Singaporean film with same name, where the violinist is gifted the eyesight, only for a greater cause. The spirit of the cornea donor has a greater task for Sydney that she must understand and carry out.

    Starring Jessica Alba as the Violinist, Sydney Wells, the movie closely revolves around the plot of the cornea transplant and strange occurrences after that. It might seem at times that, this portion seems familiar from before, although the story promises something different.

    As far as the Box Office was concerned, the movie did gross its budget, but for the critics it seemed to be a little too shabby. The thrill in this thriller was not that overwhelming, even when it came to the suspense; the finishing to the movie was something that no one expected and it naturally had mixed reactions.

    Adapted from the novel of the same name by Scott Smith, The Ruins is horror movie directed by Carter Smith and released in 2008. The plot revolves around four Americans during their vacation to Mexico. On meeting a German tourist, they embark on the quest to search for the person’s lost brother and his girlfriend near some ruins.

    The film stars Jonathan Tucker, Laura Ramsey, Jena Malone, Shawn Ashmore and Joe Anderson in the lead. The scenes involving the vines getting onto you is somewhat creepy and sends down shivers through your spine. The finishing is also interesting in implying that you can never get away from the vines, if you have been at The Ruins.

    The Ruins received mixed review from the critics and did alright for a horror movie, with almost similar plots as its predecessors. Nevertheless, a one time watch in the dark and lonely atmosphere could be quite enjoying.
