    This latest offering from Paramount Pictures has taken 3-D animation technology to such levels that one may wonder whether live actors could soon become redundant. The unique animated characters of the movie straddle the worlds of science fiction and folk tale.

    The main characters are Susan, who gets mutated into a 50’ monster when a meteorite struck her on her wedding day; Dr. Cockroach, a scientist with the head of a roach; B.O.B, a brainless, glutinous mass of a creature; Insectosaurus, a 350’ insect larva; and Missing Link, an ancient ape-fish combination strongman.

    All of them are tagged monsters and remain incarcerated in a segregated facility, providing enough visual entertainment for the audience. Their time come when aliens invade the earth. The beleaguered president, on the advice of his general, releases the so-called monsters to fight the invaders. The president and his general are two of the few live characters in the movie.

    The whole cast of the invading alien and his self-cloning army is also 3-dimensional, making the Armageddon at the end also a visual delight with heightened 3-D effects.

    At a time when corporate gullibility has struck the stratosphere with companies taking taxpayers’ money to give golden bonuses to its employees, people may not get entertained by corporate immorality, even if it comes in the garb of a romantic comedy. But what saves the day for director Tony Gilroy is the movie’s powerful lead pair of Julia Roberts and Clive Owen.
    The duo are acting as corporate spies who have infiltrated two rival manufacturing giants. Despite being in love, because of the type of their work, they can’t believe each other. And there is no linear story line, with the past intruding into the present too often in reminder games. Again, but for the star couple, it might not have been bearable. And the product they were tracking turned out to be nothing, though in the process the audience gets a peek into the minds of the success maniacs heading the corporations.
    A good movie, if all you need is relaxation. It is a Julia Roberts movie all the way, and her wonderful chemistry with Clive Owen. Still, as Julia’s partner in comedy, George Clooney might have fared better.

    Though not directed by Apatow himself, the movie I Love You, Man is a lovely Apatovian potpourri. The two lead characters played by Paul Rudd and Jason Segel create enough situations to leave everyone in splits. The story is that Rudd is too good and gooey a guy that he has no male friends to be his best man at his wedding, a problem he hopes his brand new chum Segel would solve. Segel is ready to do the job but he believes that as part of the bargain he has to molt his new friend out of his geekdom by giving him some practical exposure to manliness.

    Rudd has the charm to be an ideal man for a woman, but not the required credentials to be a chum of a manly man. The audience gets enough of coarse humor as Segal goes about masculizing Rudd with the necessary accents and acts. The story is based on this single thread of getting trained in a natural finishing school for men. But the thread is long enough to be woven into hilarious patterns as Rudd learns his lessons to manhood the rough way.

    Eleven Minutes (Documentary): Eleven Minutes is a documentary about the fashion designer Jay McCarroll and his preparation for the Bryant Park runway show at the New York Fashion Week back in the fall of 2007. The documentary captures everything from the invitations that were sent by the designer to the different fashion editors to the other finer details like the export of sewing materials from China. The designer happened to be the first winner of Project Runway, and since then there has been no looking back for this amazing designer. His work has earned him a lot of reputation in the fashion world, and has also been called the next great American designer by the likes of Bravo and Heidi Klum. That the designer has a great personality is quite evident from the documentary, and it also showcases his ability to talk well with people. The documentary also reveals on why the designer had no plans to be at the Bryant Park.

    Fired Up 2009: This movie has nothing in it to captivate the interests of the people coming to watch it. Eric Christian Olsen and Nicholas D’Agnosto are shown playing the roles of high school students which is quite hard to believe considering the fact that each of them are at least in their late twenties. The plot of the film is set in a cheerleading camp, which these two people happen to visit. While there the character played by D’Agnosto falls in love with a girl named Carly, who is played by Sarah Roemer. The jokes in the film are not at all good, and all the actors in the film are shown trying hard to impress, but failing to do so. The film although is supposed to have its own share of raunchy comedy is too tasteless for the taste of movie goers. With a choice of other better films, it is quite clear that people will definitely be avoiding this movie at the halls.

    People watch films for different reasons; while some watch them for just the pleasure of it, there are others who look out for the storyline in the film. However when they are provided with films such as Madea Goes To Jail, which neither has neither any entertainment nor any storyline in it, it becomes hard for the people to watch such films. Although going by the film’s title it would seem that the film is all about Madea, in reality there is very less bout her in the movie. Everything from the camerawork to the background music score in the film is utter disaster, and it can very well be understood that movie goers would hardly invest their money in films such as these, when they have much better options. Actors such as Derek Luke have completely been wasted under the direction of Tyler Perry in this film, which I s sure to be the biggest flop this year.

    Every year quite a large number of films are released around the world, and some of them have plots that are quite different from the rest. One such film is this one directed by P.J Hogan and starring Isla Fisher as Rebecca Bloomwood. Rebecca is portrayed as a lovable woman who runs up a huge debt due to her shopping bill, and lands herself a job at a magazine. The editor of the magazine where she starts working takes a liking for her, and keeps her hired. But very soon she again starts shopping herself too debt, and then it becomes quite a task for her to go ahead and win back the love of her editor and also part ways with her shopping. With such a weak storyline there is hardly any substance in the movie to attract people to the movie halls, and is sure to be a failure at the box office.

    It has been long since moviegoers have watched a good 3D film and Caroline sure is a movie that people must watch, to get a real feel of what exactly a 3D film is all about. This modern day fairytale movie is based on a story that has been adapted from a novel by Neil Gaiman. The story is about a girl named Coraline who shifts with her parents to a new house known as Pink Palace. Once in her new house, Caroline badly misses her old friends, and since her parents are too busy with their own work she ends up being neglected. Things change when she finds a door to another world that helps her in having the fun of her life. The 3D animation that is there is the mainstay of the film, will make sure that people coming to watch the movie do not end up losing their money.

    The film is supposed to be a romantic comedy, and certainly has some positives that make it a film worth watching. Although owing to the great number of plots in the film, the main characters of the film are able to create a connection with the audience. The plot of the film is quite confusing with the characters in the film becoming interleaved with each other. It is all about women and their relationships with the men in their lives. There is nothing outstanding that has been done by the actors in the film like Ginnifer Goodwin, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Connelly, Ben Affleck, or Drew Barrymore; however it still manages to have that little extra which is enough to make sure that the people watching it do not get bored of it. Watching the film is sure to bring out some true emotions among the people watching it.

    The movie has a cast that is nowadays seldom seen in most Hollywood films nowadays. With the likes of Steve Martin, Jean Reno, Emily Mortimer, Andy Garcia, Aishwarya Rai, John Cleese, Alfred Molina and Lily Tomlin starring in the film, one would definitely have high expectations with the film. However the film has hardly any success in living up to such expectations. Harald Zwart has failed as a director with his very poor sense of comedy and visual style that has reduced the film to an uninteresting remake. The story of the film revolves around the theft of the Pink Panther and the attempts by Steve Martin and his team of investigators trying to revive it, from the hands of the thief who is known as the Tornado. However under the poor direction of Zwart there is nothing remotely interesting in the film and the comedy portions in the film are far too commonplace to be liked by cine-goers.

    This movie adds to the list of bad films that have been released this year. There is hardly any material in the film, which could help it in being termed as watchable. The main character in this film is played by Kevin James who plays Paul Blart. The actual plot in the movie is how Blart, a cop at the mall helps in thwarting the plans of a gang of hoodlums, who are creating havoc in it. What follows is a spin off of the popular Home Alone series, with Paul Blart using the very things in the mall to try beat the people trying to take over the mall. There is nothing much in the story and neither the script that could help the cause of the film. This Steve Carr directed movie is sure to join the list of many other films that have come and gone from the movie halls as fast as they came.

    Bride Wars: Although there are a lot of films that are released every year there are very few movies that are actually liked by the audience. Most of the films are so bad that people even wonder why these films are made. One such movie is this film directed by Gary Winick and starring the likes of Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson. The film has a very weak storyline to help the cause of the film and there is no doubt that it would turn out to be a box office disaster. The film revolves around two friends Liv and Emma played respectively by Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway, who have their marriages fixed on the same day at the same venue by the wedding planner played by Candice Bergen. Each of these women then try hard to stop the other from getting married on the planned date, and this is what the film is all about. With such a script one can very well imagine what could be the response from the audiences.

    Adding to the numbers of animated films that has released this year The Tale of Despereaux is another animation film that is based on the works of the writer Kate DiCamillo. The main story of the film is about the exploits of an adventurous mouse by the name of Despereaux; however the film also has many other subplots going on along with the central plot of the film making the story a bit too complicated for a children’s movie. The major stars who have lent their voices in the film include Mathew Broderick, Dustin Hoffman. Richard Jenkins, Emma Watson and others. The story of the film being adapted from four books makes it a tough ask to portray the main story in a condensed manner, and this can very well be felt throughout the film. The film is mainly targeted towards the younger audience who are sure to love this movie.

    Disney Bedtime Stories is quite a nice movie in which Skeeter Bronson works in a hotel. The real plot of the movie unfolds when Sandler’s (Skeeter Bronson) sister asks him to take care of her children while she goes to look for some work. While his sister is away Skeeter tries to keep the children entertained with some bedtime stories. The kids get interested and they too start adding in details to the stories. This is when things start to get interesting: whatever detail the kids add to the stories, it becomes reality.

    The addition of the kids to the story all of sudden puts Skeeter in a state of competition with Guy Pearce, the villain. The stake is for a new design for the hotel, though Guy Pearce has an added advantage as he dates Mr. Nottingham’s daughter.

    The movie unfolds excellently but if you are looking at it thinking that you would get an excellent comedy movie, then you would be disappointed.

    2008 has seen quite a lot of real life, serious movies Marley and Me is a break away. A dramedy movie directed by David Frankel is quite an entertaining and touchy. The movie revolves around a couple both of whom are reporters, John and Jenny Grogan who relocate to Florida. Jenny and John both strike jobs within a few days but with time Jenny starts to get more recognition for her work. John on the other hand has a tough time.

    Owing to the success of Jenny (Jennifer Aniston), John wonders if she is would be ready for a family. John’s co-worker and friend suggest that they should rather adopt a dog to see if they really are ready for family. Marley, the Labrador puppy which they adopt soon becomes a part of their family but his behavior results in numerous things which includes John’s promotion and their family.

    With a daughter and two sons to John and Jenny, Jenny decide that it is time that they give away Marley that is when they realize that Marley has become an indispensable part of their family.
